Further information

This trip is designed as a great introduction to multi-day touring, A sheltered water environment, with easy distances for a relaxed paddle and a feeling of remoteness; along with camping, campfires and composting toilets, in case you're not quite ready to 'go' in the wild yet.

We will meet up at the beautiful Barefoot Campsite on the banks of the Thames on Friday evening and set up camp. We will paddle a short distance up the river for Dinner at the Maybush (at your own cost) before returning to camp and settling in around the campfire for the evening.

Early on Saturday morning, our shuttle bus will arrive to transport us upriver to our launch point at Tadpole bridge. After collecting your sandwich selection, we slowly wind our way back down the river through the Oxfordshire countryside and the remotest parts of the mighty Thames. Paddling through miles of green fields intersected by the Willow-fringed banks of the river. Look out for Otters and Kingfishers along the way.

The absence of towns and villages gives a sense of peace and tranquillity to this part of the river, only punctuated by the bustle of the many Locks that need to be portaged along the route.

By the end of the first day, you will be happy to arrive back at Barefoot campsite with your tent already erected and waiting. Take a swim in the river or simply relax and chill out while we cook your evening meal and light the campfire.

The next day we will wake and break camp before embarking on our last day on the river.  The distance is easily achievable, so again this will be a fairly relaxed start. Time for an early morning swim maybe?

We want you to paddle efficiently and safely on your trips, not just when you are with us. On this trip, you can just paddle and enjoy the view, or take advantage of Phil's years of paddling and water time to learn more about equipment and technique. You will learn about hazards in the river environment and how to mitigate them so you can plan your trips safely and enhance your enjoyment of SUP.
